The new rules are much stricter than in previous years. Now, each implant has to be certified through a national quality control body, where it will be tested for its resistance to tears as well as the presence of any toxic chemicals.

The law is a necessity given that no such regulations existed in Brazil. It is an especially good idea given the popularity of plastic surgery in the country. A 2010 study from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery found that Brazil ranked third in the total number of surgical and non-surgical procedures performed, behind the United States and China.

Plastic surgery is so popular in Brazil that the country's legislature recently made it tax deductible. According to Allure magazine, the deduction covers everything from breast implants to tummy tucks and works retroactively back to 2004.

This is the first implant that causes a reduction in blood-vessel architecture, which the breast cancer tumors depend on. Most importantly, the surface does not deter healthy cells so the breast implant recovery process is not be affected. In lab tests after just one day, researchers saw a 15 percent decrease of the production of protein VEGF, which endothelial breast cancer cells latch onto.

More research has to be conducted before the implant is available and approved by the FDA. If this does get approved, it could be a perfect solution for women who undergo breast reconstruction after a breast cancer diagnosis that leads to a mastectomy.

Regardless of a person's reasoning behind opting for breast augmentation surgery, patients should ensure they are well prepared for the recovery process and surgery itself before going under the knife. 

According to a recent survey from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, about 69 percent of breast augmentation patients elect to go with silicone implants. Some prospective patients may be concerned about the safety of silicone, but there is no reason to be given that they were approved by the FDA in 2006. Being well-educated about the procedure itself, as well as who is performing the surgery, may help alleviate any worries.

"Appropriate training and vast experience are key," said one Virginia-based plastic surgeon. "A plastic surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and who has extensive experience in breast surgery and breast implants is the optimum choice when selecting a surgeon for breast surgery."

It's no surprise patients choose silicone breast implants over saline implants. Silicone tends to leave women with a more natural look and feel, which is often a priority among patients.

Eat the right food

It may not seem like what you eat can affect how quickly you heal, but experts say that's the case. There are a number of nutrients that encourage wound healing, including vitamin C, protein and zinc. Luckily, there are many ways to add them to your diet including citrus fruit, green vegetables, meat and dairy.

Wear the right clothing

Immediately after surgery you'll be outfitted with a compression garment or surgical bra to make sure your tissues stay in their new position. Other than that, surgeons urge patients not to wear underwire bras for several weeks because they will move the implants into the wrong position.

Move around the right amount

While you should relax and avoid strenuous activity for a few weeks after surgery, that doesn't mean you should spend all your time on the couch. Doctors say moving around the house and staying mobile is a crucial part of the recovery process because it will help ensure that blood clots don't form in your legs.

Watch out for complications

As is the case with any surgery, breast augmentation carries with it the risk of complications. According to WebMD, you should be on the lookout for burning sensations, unexpected swelling or a high fever. Patients should contact their surgeon or physician if they experience any of these symptoms.

Madison Landis is 18 years old and wears a AA cup, and she says she wants to feel more feminine and secure.

"I feel like it will make me more confident for college and less insecure about myself," Landis told the news source about the breast implant procedure.

Her parents had no problem giving Landis this gift, as her mother also opted for breast implants when she was 24. Landis' father believes it will enhance his daughter's body image.

Landis is not the only one opting for surgery at a young age. The media outlet reports the number of teens between the ages of 13 and 19 going under the knife for cosmetic surgeries increased by 548 percent from 1996 to 2010.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, saline breast implants are approved by the FDA for women who are 18 and older, whereas silicone implants are FDA-approved for those who are 22 and older. 

That seems to be the case with reality TV star Jenelle Evans, who opted for breast augmentation surgery last week. The "Teen Mom 2" star was active on Twitter to document the entire process, and the procedure was also filmed to be included on an upcoming episode of the show.

However, just days later Evans was spotted at a local beach – something that most surgeons wouldn't advise so soon after the procedure. Typically, there's a breast augmentation recovery period of at least 3 to 4 days before women are allowed to even go back to work, let alone run around on a beach. Evans is risking complications with the surgery due to sun and water exposure.

"Can she do it?" a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon told CelebBuzz. "Obviously, since she is. Is it advised to be frolicking at the beach a week after any major cosmetic surgery? I don’t know of a single plastic surgeon who would be okay with this activity, let alone encourage it. She increases her risk of complications, especially infection, scar formation, and discoloration."

Specifically, sun can cause scars and discoloration, which is why many surgeons recommend avoiding bikinis for a few months. In the case of going in the water, the patient's scars must be fully healed and closed to prevent bacteria from getting into the implants and causing an infection.

Burke, 40, said she has received Botox injections here and there for a while, and she has also been upfront about the breast enhancement surgery she had in her 20s. Now, after having four children, she's considering going through breast implants recovery once more.

"When you've breast-fed four children, things kind of change," she told the magazine. "So that's probably the most likely thing on the radar."

Burke would not be the only mother to turn to plastic surgery to help regain her form. The so-called "mommy makeover" usually includes a breast lift and implants along with a tummy tuck. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast implants were the most popular surgical procedure in 2011, with around 307,000 patients undergoing the surgery.

Torres confided in a psychologist at the University of Miami's Courtelis Center for Psychosocial Oncology that she didn't feel beautiful anymore without her breasts, and it was becoming a constant internal battle.

"You are not your breasts," the psychologist replied. "There is more to you than that. You have a pretty face. You are intelligent and interesting, and that makes you beautiful."

However, Torres looked at various studies, which showed women with larger breasts tend to have higher levels of certain hormones that promote fertility. Another study conducted by researchers at New Zealand's University of Wellington looked at men's eye movements to see where their eyes were first drawn when they met a woman – 80 percent were fixated on the chest and midsection first.

Torres added that not every woman gets breast augmentation after their cancer – one of her co-workers even suggested getting tattoos over the scars. However, Torres knew that wasn't who she was. She wanted to feel beautiful again.

After Torres made her decision, the plastic surgeon inserted the expandable implants to stretch the skin. Torres opted for saline breast implants, which have made her feel "less alien." She is satisfied with the results and feels as though she made the right choice.

"For cancer patients like me, whose real breasts were like time bombs, advances in plastic surgery have been miraculous," Torres wrote in the article.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, a good breast augmentation candidate is someone who has low self-esteem because their breasts are too small, often find that clothes fit well around the hips but too large around the bust-line, or feel uncomfortable in certain outfits or swimsuits. Additionally, women whose breasts have changed since pregnancy or after losing an excessive amount of weight may make good candidates.

Before an individual goes under the knife, it is important she is well-informed about the recovery process as well as the surgery itself. Listening to personal experiences like Torres' may help some women make the decision.

"It’s something I really wanted to do for myself – not for a man, not for work, for myself and I love them," she told Cosmopolitan UK last fall.

The "Almost Famous" actress had been vocal about her undersized chest for years, but in 2010 she stepped out with a noticeably-fuller figure. According to Radar Online, Hudson's are some of the best in Hollywood because while they are not overly-noticeable, there is a distinct difference.

There may be some activities impacted by a breast implant surgery. For instance, runners may notice a little different in balance and swimmers may need to adjust to the different buoyancy.

In addition, breast augmentation can affect a person's range of motion, especially when the implants are on the larger side. However, as long as a patient explains his or her daily routine and concerns to the surgeon, the professional will be able to recommend the proper implant size that will fit in with the patient's lifestyle.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, those who opt for the surgery should ensure they are well prepared for breast augmentation recovery as well. It is important to follow the surgeon's instructions and not over extend oneself while healing to ensure the best results.
